Bend, Oregon — In June 2024, Mike Jones fell 40 feet from a cliff near Benham Falls into raging white water, called 911 on his iPhone as responders directed him for about 14 minutes, an off-duty Bend Fire rescue technician, Dan Price, grabbed his kayak to contact and stabilize him before a raft was deployed for extrication, and Jones, a Eugene resident who has faced a difficult recovery, was life-flighted to St. Charles in Bend, with responders meeting him last week to hear his perspective as Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Deschutes County Search & Rescue, Life Flight Network and Sunriver Fire supported the call.
